About the Book
My experience with my foster child’s biological mother and as a foster parent was heart-wrenching. Decisions are not in the best interest of the child. The caseworker does not consistently provide documentation, and congruency is nonexistent.
Powerful politically connected women, not of color or experience in the role of a mother, make subjective decisions about poor mothers and their children. The entitlement woven into the system supports personal choices to be made with or without information and enforce upon people of color. Why they want to adopt children of another race is never questioned.
My little girl took from the only home she knew for four years with me and left in the care of the woman’s husband. The vulnerable deserve to be protected. They have rights as citizens and human beings. Should agencies entrusted with advocating in the best interest of children be compensated with monetary incentives that facilitate adoption? If such this practice is not usury, it is a conflict of interest. The news report feeds of children murdered or abused is put out regularly. Unfortunately, after a few weeks, the story dies. All the documentation has changed, and it is back to business as usual. It is a human right to know your culture, and heritage exposure should be valued. Changing the name and having adoptive parents’ opportunity to decide adoption will be closed reminiscent of slave trade practices.
